ALICE IDA SMYTH (nee BRANDON) It is with sad hearts we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother on March 15, 2000 at the Victoria General Hospital. Alice was predeceased by her beloved husband William James in 1993, and her brothers Bill and Wes and sisters Mabel Brandon and Helen Perrin. Alice will be lovingly remembered and forever missed by her daughter Patricia Douglas and husband Don of Calgary; son William and his wife Trudy of LaSalle; son Kenneth and his wife Sharon of Winnipeg; grandchildren Kevin and Shelby and great-granddaughter Kathleen; brother and sister-in-law John and Mavis Smyth; sister-in-laws Helen Smyth, Bessie Brandon, Jean Johnson and several nieces and nephews. Alice was born April 1, 1909 at the family farm near Kenton, Man. and married Bill in 1939. Bills career led them to live in many communities in Manitoba and they eventually made their way to their new home in Winnipeg in 1953, where Alice resided until recently. Alice was an accomplished pianist and taught music for several years. She was a great sports enthusiast in her younger days, participating in various sports such as baseball, tennis, and was a member of the Grain Exchange Curling Club. She also enjoyed watching sporting events on T.V. Many of her happiest summers were spent at Clear Lake with her friends and family. For many years Alice and Bill wintered in Weslaco, Texas. The family wishes to extend their appreciation to the Doctors and nursing staff at the Victoria MRU. Service of remembrance will be held on Monday, March 20 at 11:00 a.m. in the Thomson Funeral Chapels, 669 Broadway. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, 301-352 Donald St., Wpg., Man., R3B 2H8 or a charity of your choice. As I sail away Dont weep for me, Just wish me a pleasant journey And wave goodbye; Loved ones are waiting With out-stretched arms On the other side. THOMSON FUNERAL CHAPELS 783-7211
