Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryNELLIE LILLIAN COLLINS Peacefully after 91 years, Nellie Lillian Collins passed away on Tuesday, March 14, 2000 at Poseidon Care Center in Winnipeg. Nellie was born to Susan and Samuel Martin in Oakland, MB on October 8, 1908. She attended Harmony School in the town of Margaret and finished her education in Chatham, Ontario. On her return to Manitoba in 1928, Nellie met and married a young engineer George Collins who later became Deputy Minister of Highways and Public Works for the province. Amongst other accomplishments, Nellie owned and operated Mona Lynns House of Fashion where she took great pride in employing and befriending highly skilled seamstresses from Europe in the late 1950s and 60s. Nellie is predeceased by her husband George and eight siblings. She will be fondly remembered by her sister Pat Hume of California; sister-in-law Jean Martin of Brandon; her son Jim and daughter-in-law Rhoda; granddaughters, Lynn and Joanne; grandsons, George and Billy and four great-grandchildren, Paul, Joanna, Nellie and Sam. The family would like to thank Nellies niece Isabelle Hess and husband Gordon and her nephew Ed Brook and wife Grace, all of Winnipeg, for their faithful support over the past five years. She also had a special friend Kay Shea who will recall great memories of the many trips they had together. Nell, her sister Mona and Kay would often sing and celebrate their common Irish heritage at friendly gatherings. A special thanks is extended to the staff of the Poseidon Care Center, especially those on the fourth floor where Nellie resided for the past three years. The care given to Nell has touched our hearts and made us very grateful. We were blessed with your generous and loving attention and appreciate it very much. The family and most particularly, Nellies grandchildren, will always remember their grams highly spirited enthusiasm for life. She was well known by their friends for her ability to give them very sharp colorful advice on occasion and she often called on her world travel experiences to remind them how lucky they were to live in Canada. Cremation has taken place and a gathering of family and friends will take place at a later date to honor Nellie. If desired, donations could be made to the Manitoba Heart and Stroke Foundation. "Rest in peace gramz!" Cropo Funeral Chapel in care of arrangements, 586-8044.
