Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryKAREN BENSON Mary Karen Reid, nee Benson, died peacefully in St. Pauls Hospital, Vancouver, BC, March 19, 2000. Karen was born in Toronto on June 21, 1946 and travelled extensively during her childhood as a member of a Navy family. Karen graduated from The Winnipeg General Hospital (HSC) nursing school in 1968, worked in several large centres, travelled throughout Canada and Europe, and eventually settling in Grand Forks, BC in 1973 where she worked at the Boundary Hospital. The beauty of the valley and the many close friends she made there over the years kept her in Grand Forks for the rest of her life. She loved the land and tending to her gardens. Karen will be dearly missed by her two loving and loyal sons, Aaron Relkov of Vernon, BC and Colin Reid of Grand Forks, BC. Karen was predeceased by her father Patrick in 1998 and her infant brother John in 1954. Karen will also be remembered by her family, mother Roseann Elaine Benson of Winnipeg, Tony (Ann), Beaverbank, NS, Chris (Laurie) Cannington, ON, Dave (Mo), Winnipeg, LeeAnn, Winnipeg, Rick (Paula), St. John, NB, Jamie (Karen), Victoria, BC and Mary (Kathy), Vancouver. In addition to memorial services in Vancouver and Grand Forks this weekend, a Service of Remembrance will be held at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church on Monday, March 27 at 1:00 p.m. In recent years Karen was being treated with routine dialysis and was a candidate for an organ transplant. The family supports organ donor programs and asks that you consider the needs of many others like Karen who are on a waiting list. In lieu of flowers Karens wishes were that you consider donations to the Kidney Foundation of Canada, BC Branch, 320-1600 W. 6th Ave., Vancouver. These may be made in Karen Reids memory.
