JOSEPH STANLEY BASS Peacefully, after a short illness, Joseph Bass passed away on March 21, 2000 at Concordia Hospital. He will be forever missed by his wife Marion; daughter Susan Patek (Edward) and grandson Mark; son Jan Bass (Linda) and granddaughters, Jennifer and Liane; daughter Lorraine Steck; grandson Ryan and his father Rick; sister Millicent Johnson of White Rock, B.C. and niece Pat Cooke (George) of Surrey, B.C. He was predeceased by his parents, Lucy and John and his sister Adeline. Joe was born in Austria on October 24, 1918 and came to Canada with his family in 1924. He attended school in Winnipeg and served as an Altar Boy at Holy Ghost Church. He worked for many years as a steamfitter and then went on to a career in sales in that industry. Joe and Marion retired to the country in 1975 and then moved to Birds Hill in 1987. Joe was very proud of his four grandchildren and ensured they were able to attend University if they so desired. He was a man of simple pleasures, always there to share what he had and lend a helping hand. In his earlier years, he enjoyed fishing in remote areas of Manitoba with good friends and later with his son and son-in-law. Joe was a high average five pin bowler for many years, later switching to ten pin. His lifelong passion however, was pigeons. For many years he bred and showed fancy birds, later switching to breeding and racing homing pigeons. He was very active in his hobbies until the end. Our family extends special thanks to all the doctors, nurses and support staff at the Concordia Hospital for their care and compassion. At his request, cremation has taken place. Memorial service will take place in the chapel of Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main St. on Friday, March 24 at 10:00 a.m. A gathering of family and friends will follow in the Glen Eden Reception Centre. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba. Arrangements entrusted to: GLEN EDEN FUNERAL HOME 4477 MAIN STREET 338-7111
