THERESA MARION CLAMAN Tess passed away peacefully at St. Boniface Hospital on Wednesday, March 15, 2000 at age 91. She was born on December 18, 1908 in Minneapolis, the second of six children. Tess was one of the first dental hygienists to graduate from the University of Minnesota in 1929, where Tess opened a practise. It was at the University where she met a young dental student, Benjamin Claman from Manitoba. Tess and Ben were married in Minneapolis. Shortly after graduation they made their home in Beausejour, Man. In 1940, when Ben joined the Army, the family moved to Winnipeg. Tess was an active member of the Eastern Star for over 35 years, where she earned the title of Worthy Matron of Harmony Chapter Number 20 O.E.S. in Winnipeg. Tess was a kind and caring woman. Tess was a long time resident of Lanark Towers. She treasured the time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren, playing cards, games and watching them grow. In later years, Tess thrived on keeping herself busy. She spent Mondays at the Shaarey Zedek Senior Leisure Club, Thursdays were for having her hair styled at Eatons and Saturdays for shopping at the Safeway. Tess was predeceased by her husband Ben in 1968; brothers, Jack (Freda) and Stanley (Clarice) sister Minnie and grandson Benny. Tess will be deeply missed by her sons and daughters-in-law, Sheldon and Louise, Ussher and Arlene; her grandchildren, Alisa (Brad), Erin, Marla (Doray), Brenlee (Jamie), Sara (Mardy) and Jeffrey; her four great-grandsons, Kevin, Adam, Brett and Marcus. Her brothers, Harvey Bloom and his wife Sylvia of Dallas, Texas, Jerry Bloom and his friend Shirley of Phoenix, Arizona and numerous grandnieces and grandnephews will remember Tess fondly. Tess remained close to Esther Dashevsky and will also be missed by her dear friend Betty Kennedy with whom she shared many evening phone calls. We wish to thank Dr. Alexander Pan, his staff and the employees at the Rosewood Village at Waverley, where Tess lived most recently, for their care and kindness. A heartfelt thank you to the nurses on 5ECU at the St. Boniface Hospital, who watched over Tess during her final days. A funeral service was held at the Shaarey Zedek Synagogue on Friday, March 17. Pallbearers were Alisa Claman, Brenlee Claman, Jeffrey Claman, Larry Hecht, Frank Hechter and Mardy Yager. Donations may be made to Dr. Ben Claman Fund, Dept. of Private Funding, 179 Continuing Education Complex, U. of Manitoba, Winnipeg, MB, R3T 2N2 or to a charity of your choice.
