WILLIAM JOHN LUCY On March 21, 2000 at Portage District General Hospital with his family at his side, William (Bill) John Lucy entered into rest at the age of 89. He leaves to cherish his memory his daughter Velma of Portage, MB and sons, Clifford (Dawn) of Elgin, MB and Henry (Joyce) of Winnipeg, MB; grandchildren, Brad Lucy (Darla), Michael Lucy (Corinne), Jackie Sharpe (Marc), Barb Braun (Wes), Wendell Lucy, Warren Lucy (Kandi) great-grandchildren, Grant Lucy, Matthew Lucy, Jenna Leigh Lucy, Kendra Lucy, Nicole Sharpe, Matthew Sharpe, Sara Braun, Stephanie Braun, Melissa Lucy, Brock Lucy. Bill was born in Elgin on February 5, 1911. He was predeceased by his wife Grace May Lucy, and parents, William Henry and Fanny Lucy, also his brother Russell Lucy. Bill married Grace Constable in 1937 and resided in Elgin till 1991 when they moved to Brandon. They moved to Portage in 1995, and Bill has continued to reside there after Graces passing in February, 1996. Dad will be remembered for his involvement in the farming community and his school bus driving years. Dad was always involved in peoples lives helping out whenever possible throughout his 89 years. He never lost his sense of humour even in these last weeks in hospital. A memorial service will be held March 24 at 2:00 p.m. at Kowalchuks Funeral Chapel, Souris, MB. Cremation has already taken place. Interment in the family plot at Elgin Cemetery will take place later in the spring. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Portage District General Hospital Foundation - Medical Palliative Care Unit, 524 Fifth St., S.E., Portage la Prairie, MB R1N 3A8 or the Central Plains Cancer Care Services, 318 Saskatchewan, E., Portage la Prairie, MB R1N 0K8.
