JAMES WILLIAM ROSS James William Ross, formerly of South Transcona, passed away peacefully at the Peace Arch Hospital in White Rock, B.C. on March 8, 2000 at the age of 89. He was a very special father to his children, Jim (Gill) of Millarville, Alta. and Sue (Jack) Quinn of White Rock, B.C., as well as a wonderful grandpa to Alison, Lesley, Kirsten and Janna. He is also survived by his loving sister Beth Morris and numerous nephews and nieces. Jim was predeceased by his wife Millie (nee Kovac) in 1956 and by his sisters, Peggy Ross (1975) and Eva McEwan (1986). Born April 29, 1910 in Miami, Man., he moved to Winnipeg as a teenager and worked for the Federal Grain Co. In 1939 he bought a five acre farm in South Transcona and two years later married Millie in 1941. There they raised their family and Jim nourished his love of gardening, developing specialty crops of raspberries, sunflowers and giant pumpkins, but nothing made him happier than the time he spent surrounded by his family. Jim was a long time employee of the Town of Transcona and the City of Winnipeg. He retired in 1975 and continued to reside in South Transcona eventually moving to Vancouver and White Rock. Interment service is planned for this summer at the Transcona Cemetery.
