Alberta was predeceased by her brothers, Raymond and Emile Bernier in 1984; father Charles Bernier in 1932, and her mother Agnes (nee Gauthier) in 1945. Having never married in order to take care of her aging parents, Alberta had always lived a life focused on nurturing and giving and being attentive to the needs of friends and family. She had an ear for music and had long been a very good pianist. She had on numerous occasions willingly put her musical talents forth to help church and school choirs, benefit concerts, etc. She especially enjoyed participating impromptu for the variety shows of the CKSB radio station. Alberta was an ardent student at lInstitut Collegial Saint-Joseph under the direction of the sisters of the Saints-Noms de Jesus et de Marie. She was the president of lAmicale Marie-Rose and she successfully organized the 50th anniversary celebration of that club. Always smiling, Alberta was always ready to lend a hand to anyone who needed her help. People from the St. Boniface area knew her as one who enjoyed walking. She could often be seen walking back to St. Boniface after having runs errands in Winnipeg only to stop in to the St. Boniface Hospital to visit a patient then to walk to the Centre Tache for another visit, having stopped in the meantime to pick up some groceries for her trek home. Nicknamed "la dame au chapeau" by her friends and acquaintances, she would walk to work and back regardless of the weather conditions. Alberta was employed by the government for Employment and Immigration for 43 years. She had been retired since 1965 and had travelled with friends on numerous occasions. During this time, she had also worked for lAmbassade de Cologne for 3.5 years. The family would like to thank all the personnel at the Lions Manor for the care they provided to our aunt for the past five years. Ron Leger will celebrate the funeral mass at 7:30 p.m. The service will terminate at the church. "Dear aunt, we bid you farewell; we will always cherish fond memories of your sense of humour and of you spoiling us." LECLAIRE BROTHERS in care of arrangements; 775-2220.
