Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryALEXANDER CATCHEWAY (KATCHIWE) May 5, 1912 - March 25, 2000 Peacefully, in his sleep, at the age of 87 years, Alexander Catcheway (Katchiwe) on Saturday, March 25, 2000 at the Dr. Gendreau Personal Care Home in Ste. Rose du Lac, MB. Alex leaves to mourn his beloved wife of 52 years, Catherine (nee: Guiboche) his son Donald (Mary) his daughters, Elsie (William) Marsden and Marie (Gordon) Nepinak; his grand-daughter Madeline whom he raised; as well as 20 grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. Alex was predeceased by his father, Gaspard; his mother Elise (nee: Boucher) his first wife Angelique (nee: Maud) his brothers, Vital and Johnny; his sister; his daughters, Sara Jane, Madeline, Harriet and baby girl; his sons, Alfred and Harry; his grandchildren, Robert J. (Jackie), Floyd, Baby Catcheway and Allan Joseph; as well as his great-grandchild Swayde. Shoom Alec, as the community and his family knew him by, was born on May 5, 1912 in Skownan, Manitoba, he resided there all of his life. A man of many trades and skills, Shoom took great pride in his work and passed on his extensive knowledge and experience to all his descendants. Alex was Chief of Skownan, now called Waterhen First Nation, for two terms during 1951-1953 and from 1959-1961. Shoom was the last hereditary Chief of Skownan until the arrival of the Indian Act to our community. He will be sorrowfully missed and forever remembered by his family, friends and community. A wake service will be held on Wednesday, March 29 at 7:30 p.m. The funeral service will be held on Thursday, March 30 at 1:00 p.m. Both services will be held at the Waterhen First Nation Band Hall, Skownan, Manitoba, with Pastor Alex Marsden and Abraham Houle officiating. Interment will follow at the Skownan Pentecostal Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to Anderson Family Funeral Home, Ashern, Manitoba, 1-204-768-3606.
