Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMABEL SVEISTRUP Peacefully on March 25, 2000 at her residence at the Pioneer Manor in Ashern, Mabel Sveistrup aged 82 years. Mabel was born on August 22, 1917 in Mulvihill, Manitoba. Her parents were Marie and Peder Forseng of the Dolly Bay District. Mabel marred Stefan Sveistrup, On October 17, 1939 in Winnipeg. Steve and Mabel farmed on the original Sveistrup homestead at Vogar from 1939 to the flood of 1955, when they moved to Ashern. Mabel enjoyed sewing, knitting and crocheting for her family. She had a knitting machine and made many dozens of fishermans mitts. Mabel was a good cook and homemaker, and centered her life around her children and grandchildren. Her door was always open to friends and relatives to stop over for a visit and a meal. She was a thoughtful, caring person who would help anyone. She was truly a genuine, kind person. She will be sadly missed by her family and friends. Mabel was predeceased by her parents, her husband Stefan in 1980, an infant son Freeman Glen in 1953, her sisters Edna Pedersen, Alma Ormiston, her brothers Frank, Bill and a son-in-law Garnet McKay. She leaves to mourn her passing, her children Mary (Peter) Chykowski of Victoria, Arnold (Irene) of Vancouver, Gary (Stella) of Ashern, Susan (Larry) Lepischak of Portage la Prairie and Roy (Elsie) of Calgary. Her grandchildren Glen McKay, Cindy Markwart, Tammy Donison, Penny McKay, Noreen Sveistrup, Rhonda (Jeff) Bradley, Stacey Sveistrup, Deanne Sveistrup, Rod (Michelle) Sveistrup, Trisha Sveistrup, Steve Sveistrup, Kristin Lepischak, Kathleen (Jorg) Stark, Melanie (Ed) Pereira. Great-grandchildren Blaine, Shane, Brandt and Shanna-Mae Markward, Fallon and Matthew Donison, Austin, Dallas and Shayla McKay, Desiree and Kataryna Pereira, a sister-in-law Astrid Sveistrup, a brother Rolf Forseng, along with many nieces, nephews and good friends. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 1, at the Ashern United Church with Student Minister Melanie Kauppila officiating. Interment to follow in the Ashern United Church Yard Cemetery. Everyone in attendance may consider themselves honorary pallbearers. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Lakeshore Hospital Guild, c/o Runa Mangl, Box 591, Ashern, MB R0C 0E0. The family would like to extend their thanks to Mabels Home Care Workers, the staff at the L.I.F.E. office, and Dr. Lee Isaacs for his visits to Mabel. Thank you to the Lakeshore Handivan who picked Mabel up and took her to the Adult Day Program, which she really enjoyed. A special thank you to the "Say Read" Program of the Ashern Early Years, Kindergarten - Grade 4 classes for their enjoyable visits and stories, and to her many friends for their kindness shown to Mable over the years.
