ANNE MASSEY (nee KOZUN) With saddened hearts, the family announces the passing of our dearly beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Anne Massey, on Monday, March 27, 2000, at the Betel Home in Selkirk, Manitoba. Left to cherish her memory is her husband of 50 years, Tommy; children, Winston (Catherine) of Winnipeg, Jessie Ann (Larry) Roulette of Brandon, Man., Harvey of Selkirk, Bill of Winnipeg, Jim (Brenda) of Lockport, Man. and Shelley of Tyndall, Man. She also leaves six grandchildren, Carmel, Sean, Jaylin, Leslie, Kevin and Kelli and one great-granddaughter Samantha Anne; two brothers, Mike Kozun (Esther) of Edmonton, Alta. and Bill Kozun (Beryl) of Kaslo, B.C.; three sisters, Katie Pinarski of Selkirk, Julia (Andy) Bosko of East Selkirk and Betty (Joe) Julien of Ontario. Also Anne Kozan of Selkirk, who was like a sister to her, and her special niece Barbie Prieston of Calgary, Alta. She will also be missed by her many nieces, nephews and friends. Anne was predeceased by a daughter Maureen at birth; her mother Annie Kozun (nee Pawlyshyn) in 1963; her father John Kozun in 1973; brother Fred Kozan in 1982; sister Stephanie Janik in 1994 and a brother in infancy. Anne was born on August 3, 1918, in Winnipeg, and moved as an infant to Selkirk, Man., where she grew up and attended school. She met her husband Tommy there and they married in 1949. They raised their six children on Strathnaver Avenue. She was employed at Morrisons Hardware, the Selkirk General Hospital and the Southview Bakery until her retirement in 1986. She was deeply proud of her Ukrainian heritage, and shared with her family her love of Ukrainian food. She was an excellent cook and a very talented baker. Her specialty was baked bread, which her family would almost devour before she could get it out of the oven. Endless hours were spent in her garden and flower beds. Whether it was baby potatoes or freshly cut flowers, the fruits of her labour were generously shared with her family and friends. She also enjoyed bird watching, knitting, reading and was especially fond of the many cats she had over the years. She loved having coffee with family, friends and neighbours and especially enjoyed large family gatherings on Sundays and special occasions. Anne was headstrong and principled with a fierce independent spirit, which was evident even in her last days. Although she had many interests and hobbies, what was closest to her heart was her family and home. Anne was a very loving, giving and caring wife, mother and grandmother. She had a deep faith in God and she touched many lives. Her family was the centre of her universe and she always put their needs above her own. Her unselfish ways and kindness, determination and unconditional love, and her devotion to her family is what we will remember, treasure and miss the most. Our hearts are heavy, our sorrow deep. Her loss is undescribable and she will be in our hearts forever. Always. Her pallbearers will be Andy Bosko, Len Kulchyski, Glen Kozan, Jerry Helgason, Mike Kelly and Sean Massey. The family wishes to express their sincere thanks to the staff at the Betel Home, Selkirk, for their care of mother this past year. A prayer service will be said on Friday, March 31, at 8:30 p.m. in the Gilbart Funeral Chapel, Selkirk. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 1, at 11:00 a.m. also in the chapel, with Fr. Harry Oliynek officiating. A viewing will be held one half hour prior to the service. Interment to follow in the Little Britain United Cemetery. Tokens of sympathy may be made to the Alzheimers Society of Manitoba. We will always love you and never forget you. REST IN PEACE VICHNAYA PAMYAT Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements.
