BEATRICE JEAN PIRIE (nee GERRIE) June 28, 1904 - March 28, 2000 Beatrice died at Central Park Lodge. Predeceased by her parents, Charles and Emma Gerrie, six siblings and her niece. She is survived by her youngest sister, Dorothy Gerrie; her children, Marian Yea, Barbara Germain and Frank Metcalfe; son-in-law Garry Germain; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Beatrices grandparents were early settlers arriving in Winnipeg in 1872. Her grandfather, Robert Gerrie, a prominent Manitoba businessman is noted for exporting the first shipment of grain to Europe. Her father was a distinguished member of the Conservative party. Married to Frank Metcalfe, a grain Trader, Beatrice a homemaker for many years, entered the work force in her early forties. She was employed as a comptometer operator by Scottish Co-operative a grain firm. After a second marriage to Stuart Pirie, she moved to Toronto where she worked in the Imperial Oil for ten years, retiring in Winnipeg in 1975. Known for her interest in fashion, she was an energetic, lively personality, who relished an active social life. A speed skater as a young woman, she later joined the Winnipeg Winter Club and continued to enjoy figure skating into her 80s. In the early 30s, she worked as a political volunteer for Margaret McWilliams. During the Second World War, she organized blood donations for The Red Cross. In her retirement, she lived independently until a couple of months before her death and she enjoyed occasional visits to her children in New Jersey and California. Memorial service will be held at Thomson Funeral Chapels, 669 Broadway, at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, April 1.
