Bessie was a true treasure who loved unconditionally and was always concerned for the well-being of others. She was born in Wye Valley in Wales on June 12, 1912. At the age of one, Bessie and her parents, Arthur and Alice Malpas immigrated to Eriksdale, MB. In the early 1930s, Bessie moved to East Hawk Lake to accept a position at Bushs Trading Post. It was here that she met her beloved husband, Jack (Blackie) Wagner. They were married in Kenora on November 17, 1940. Bessie and Jack were blessed with two sons and a daughter, Bud, Bette, and Keith (Art). After the war the family moved to their new home in Kenora. After the unexpected death of her husband in 1963, Bessie went to work for Kelvin and Lila Winkler. She will be fondly remembered as the smiling lady from Pats Stationery. She was well into her 70s before she agreed to retire. Bessie was predeceased by her parents, Arthur and Alice Malpas, her husband Jack, her brother Frank, two infant sons and a great-nephew Stuart. She is survived by her sister Florence Hepburn and family; sister-in-law Essie Malpas; son Bud (Faith - Deana, Coral and Bradley) daughter Bette; son Art (Jan - Tyler and Lisa, Amanda) and beloved granddaughters Jackie and Leslie (Derrick). Bessie was a very special mother and grandmother. We are all grateful for our memories of her and the rich legacy she left behind.
