ROSE STEIN It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Rose Stein on March 14, 2000 with her loving husband of 50 years, Harry, at her side. Rose was predeceased by her parents Bulia and Jacob (Yankel) Lander, her brother David and her sister Sonia Fried. Rose was born in Yumpeleh, Ukraine in 1915, and emigrated with her family to Canada in 1921. After high school, she worked at the Hudsons Bay Company. After their marriage, she worked with Harry at their store, Steins Jewellers, for 25 years. Their customers became like family to Rose. She expressed her feelings openly with everybody, rejoicing in their triumphs, and crying with them over misfortunes. Rose was happiest as a homemaker. She was a devoted care-giver to her ailing parents for many years. For Rose, care-giving came very naturally. Despite many trials in her life, Rose always remained a generous and gentle woman. She was particularly loving and tender towards children, and to many - sons and daughters of cousins and neighbours - she was like a baba. Funeral services were held on March 16 at the Chesed Shel Emes Chapel, with internment at the Shaarey Zedek Cemetery, Rabbi Allan Green officiating. Pallbearers were Dr. Mark Lander, Sheila Lander, Brian Lerner, Mervyn Mindess, Ira Micay, and Max Stern. Donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
