JOSEPH SHAW KELLY Quite suddenly, although not unexpected, Joseph Shaw Kelly passed away peacefully on the afternoon of Thursday, March 30, 2000. Dad to us, Joe to his family and friends, he lived a good life with a passion for helping others. We do not mourn his death. Rather we celebrate his full and rewarding life. Dad was predeceased by his loving wife and soul mate Shirley; brothers, Bernard and Michael and sisters, Rita and Mary-Margaret all of with whom he has now been re-united. He is survived by his two "chosen" children, Sharon and Jim; his sisters, Kathleen and Betty; son-in-law Kevin Donnelly; daughter-in-law Joanne Hoekstra; grandchildren, Katie, Rachel, Thomas and Christopher Donnelly and Stefanie and Benjamin Kelly and many, many nieces, nephews and cousins. We celebrate Dads life of helping and serving others: from his service in the RCNVR in the Second World War, through his years as an officer with RCSCC Crusader, and his involvement with the Naval Officers Association and the local community. Dad always put his family, his friends, sometimes complete strangers, and yes, even his dogs ahead of himself. While we will miss him in this physical life, his memory will live on forever in all of us whose hearts he has touched in so many different ways. Although the number of people to thank is endless and too numerous to mention, Sharon and I must thank three people who have helped us so much, given our great distance apart from Dad. Great thanks to Kerry LeBlanc, a close friend of Sharon and Kevin. He has been an absolute God send over the past few years, selflessly taking care of things on our behalf to make Dads life so much easier. And to my birth-aunt Fran and cousin Rosanne both of whom I only met for the first time last June, for comforting Dad throughout his final hours including his time of passing. In lieu of flowers, Dad would have wanted you to donate whatever you could to your own choice of charity. Funeral Services will be held at Desjardins Funeral Chapel, 357 Des Meurons St., on Monday, April 3, at 3:00 p.m. Interment of cremated remains till follow at Glen Lawn Memorial Gardens. The Desjardins Funeral Chapel in care of arrangements, 233-4949; toll free 1-888-233-4949.
