SYLVIA MICHAELINE LEASK Peacefully, at Riverview Health Centre on April 1, 2000 after a courageous battle with a brain tumor, Sylvia Michaeline Leask, 57, went to be with her dad on his birthday in heaven. She is sadly missed by her husband and best friend Ed Leask; her daughter Heather and husband Ray Armstrong and their son Jake; one son Jason and his wife Cindy Schropfer Leask and their children Bob and Craig Schropfer. She also leaves to mourn her mom Olga Kihn; her sisters, Virginia (Ronald) Braun, Rosemary (Gary) Epler; her godparents, Helene and Ed Rempel; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, George and Sheila Leask, John and Louise Leask, Dorothy Mitchell and many dear aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. She was predeceased by her father Jacob (Jack) Kihn. Sylvia was born on October 14, 1942 at Morris, Man. When starting school she couldnt speak English, having spoken German at home, but soon became an excellent student and cultivated a life long love of reading that she passed on to her children and grandson. Upon graduation from high school in Sperling, Man., she trained as a Lab and X-ray Technician in Winnipeg and Portage la Prairie. While working in Virden, Man., she met "Eddie", a farm boy training to become a Royal Canadian Air Force pilot. They married on December 19, 1964. The years that followed would see Sylvia and Ed and later their children Heather and Jason live and visit interesting locales across Canada as Ed worked as a military pilot, including Bagotville, Quebec, Montreal, Quebec, Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, Winnipeg, Manitoba, Courtenay, B.C., and Portage la Prairie, Manitoba. In 1979, the family moved to the family farm near Sperling. Home again, Sylvia enjoyed many seasons of taking on the duties of harrowing and combining in addition to her always excellent cooking and home-making skills. She loved reading, sewing, gardening, fishing, drives with Ed to check out the crops and visits with friends to tea houses and other interesting haunts. During her full and vibrant life, Sylvia made many friends. She was well liked by all who knew her and was never shy to strike up a conversation with interesting people she met along the way. Her kindness and thoughtfulness will forever live in our memories. Thank you to the staff at Victoria General Hospital Unit 5 and the Palliative Care Unit of Riverview Health Centre for all your loving care the last 8 months. Funeral service to be held on Wednesday, April 5, at 1:00 p.m. at St. Pauls Lutheran Church, Brunkild. Interment at Lea Bank Cemetery. Reception to follow at the Sperling Arena. If you so desire, donations may be made to the Victoria General Hospital Foundation, Winnipeg, Manitoba.
