RACHEL MARGARET (RAE) SCOTT On Sunday, April 2, 2000, Rachel Margaret (Rae) Scott died at Misericordia Place, Winnipeg, at the age of ninety-four years. Rae was born in Winnipeg on January 18, 1906. She was predeceased by her parents, John Wesley and Elizabeth Jane (Matheson) Scott; brothers, Joseph, Ralph and George Scott; sisters, Mary (in infancy) and Grace (Scott) Stewart; sisters-in-law, Agnes and Daisy Scott and brother-in-law Peter Stewart. She is survived by her sister Catherine Scott; sister-in-law Helga Scott; four nieces and one nephew. Rae was a direct descendant of the Selkirk Settlers and was a great granddaughter of Duncan McRae, the Stonemason who built a number of Manitoba heritage sites. While Rae was still an infant, the family moved to a farm on the Portage Plains. She received her elementary education in rural Manitoba at Rob Roy School, then attended the Portage Collegiate Institute, followed by Portage la Prairie Normal School and Winnipeg Normal School. She later obtained three degrees at the University of Manitoba. She began her teaching career in rural schools, Lillesve and Edwin, Manitoba and taught high school in Carberry, Manitoba and Moosomin, Saskatchewan. She then taught in the Winnipeg School Division in several elementary and junior high schools. She was principal at Fort Rouge and Inkster Schools and ended her career as principal of Robert H. Smith. During the Second World War, Rae served as a meteorologist with the Royal Canadian Air Force. Following retirement, for many years she enjoyed doing volunteer work for the Liberal Party. Rae belonged to several educational organizations and was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International. At Raes request, there will be no funeral service. A reception for family and friends will be held on Friday, April 7, at 2:30 p.m. in Thomson Funeral Chapels, 669 Broadway. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations in Raes memory may be made to a charity of their choice. THOMSON FUNERAL CHAPELS 783-7211
