HELEN MATHEWS Peacefully at Riverview Health Centre on April 4, 2000, after a courageous battle with cancer, Helen Mathews passed away at the age of 66 years. Left to mourn her passing is her husband Stanley; sons Greg and Chris; daughter Patrice; and granddaughters, Denise and Connie. She is also survived by her sisters, Olga, Claire, Anne, and Violet; and brother Michael. She was predeceased by two brothers, Frank and Walter. Helen was born on November 19, 1933 and lived her entire life in Winnipeg. She was employed for over 23 years with Sears in the customer service department. Helen had a wonderful personality and developed many lifelong friends. Helen was a wonderful mother, and devoted her life to her family. She was a talented artist and produced many outstanding paintings. The family would like to thank the staff at the Health Sciences Centre and Unit 3 East of the Palliative Care Unit at Riverview Health Centre for all their care and compassion. Visitation will be held from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. Thursday, April 6 at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. Mass will be held on Friday, April 7 at 11:00 a.m. at John XXIII Roman Catholic Parish, Assiniboia Christian Centre, 3390 Portage Ave., with Rev. Joseph V. Driscoll S. J. officiating. Interment will follow at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to CancerCare Manitoba, 100 Olivia St., Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9; or The Canadian Diabetes Association, 102-310 Broadway, Winnipeg, MB R3C 0S6.
