Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryALEXANDER ROSS PATERSON Peacefully, following a lengthy illness, Alexander Ross Paterson, beloved husband of Joy, passed away on Monday, April 3, 2000 at Deer Lodge Centre. Alex was born on March 31, 1922 in Winnipeg to Alexander and Marion Paterson. He was predeceased by his sister Peggy. Alex is survived by Joy (nee Ashton) sons Gordon (Judy), Lyndsey and Alex of Calgary; Ted (Gayle) of Chelsea, Quebec; Jim (Diane), Lauren and Erik; and Doug; cousin Hazel Griffin of Winnipeg; and cousins in Britain. Alex received his B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Manitoba before joining the R.C. Signals in 1944 for service as a lieutenant in Europe. In 1946 Alex joined Northern Electric in Montreal, moving to A.V. Roe then McBee Corporation in Toronto before returning to Winnipeg in 1953 as General Sales Manager of Systems Equipment Limited. He became President of Systems Equipment in 1958; a position he held until retirement in 1980 at which time Systems was one of Canadas leading business systems firms. Alex was active in numerous business and service organization including the Canadian Business Forms Association (founding member, president), Canadian Manufacturers Association (Manitoba Branch chairman), National Business Forms Association, Manitoba Institute of Management (treasurer), Graphic Arts Industries Association of Winnipeg (president) and the Rotary Club of Fort Garry (founding member, president). After retirement, Alex and Joy spent their time between Winnipeg and St. Petersburg Beach, Florida, where they forged many lasting friendships. The family extends their heartfelt thanks to the medical personnel and staff of the Deer Lodge Centre, and to the staff of Manitoba Health Homecare. Cremation has taken place and private family service was held. The family invites friends to join in a reception to be held at the clubhouse at Tuxedo Estates, 65 Swindon Way, between 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 8. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Alex to the Deer Lodge Foundation, 2109 Portage Ave., Winnipeg, Man., R3J 0L3, or to a charity of choice.
