GRACE EDITH MCINTOSH After a long and good life, on Wednesday, March 29, 2000, at the age of 89, Grace Edith McIntosh passed away peacefully in the recovery room at Health Sciences Centre. Edith was born in Winnipeg on February 18, 1911 to the late Dr. Ross and Della Mitchell. She was predeceased by her husband, George T. McIntosh and two granddaughters, Laura and Erin McIntosh-Johnson. Ediths life touched many people, her family, her friends and neighbours, and the students she taught. We remember Edith for her compassion, dedication to service, and attention to detail in her relationships with family and community. She is survived by her three children and their families. She leaves her daughter, Helen Hesse and husband Helmut; their four sons, Nicholas and fiancee Jennifer Dinsmore, Andreas, Christopher and Paul Hesse; her son Ross and his two daughters, Charissa and Bryanna McIntosh (partner Giovanni Spina) her daughter Mary McIntosh and husband Peter Komarnicki, and Marys daughters, Sheila and Lauren Johnson. She also leaves her sister Jean Mitchell; her brother Dr. James Mitchell and wife Cathy and their family. After graduating from the University of Manitoba, Edith spent a year studying at the Sorbonne in Paris. This led to a career teaching French and Latin at United College, Mulvey, Gordon Bell and Kelvin. Even in retirement, Edith continued to substitute at schools throughout Winnipeg No. 1 School Division. Edith was a longtime member of St. Andrews River Heights United Church, serving in many capacities. Foremost were her visits and calls made to the sick and dying for more than 20 years. Most recently, she continued as a member of the Caring Community and of the U.C.W., and participated in the Disciple study group. She was a long-standing member of the University Womens Club, and enjoyed exercise and fellowship at the Reh-Fit Centre. Victoria Beach was her favourite vacation spot. The family cottage was built in 1923, and Edith spent many summers enjoying the beauty and serenity that Victoria Beach offers. We welcome all to come and celebrate the life of Grace Edith McIntosh. A memorial service will be held at St. Andrews River Heights United Church, 255 Oak St. at Kingsway, on Monday, April 10 at 7:00 p.m., with Rev. Terry Hidichuk officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Andrews River Heights United Church Foundation or to a charity of your choice. THOMSON FUNERAL CHAPELS 783-7211
