GENEVIEVE (GENIE) (GINA) AIELLO It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our sister Genie on April 6, 2000 at the St. Boniface Hospital, after bravely coping with declining health for many years. She was predeceased by her parents, John Battista and Maria Francesca Aiello, and brothers-in-law, John Rice, Sr., Bob Nixon and Russell Smuchilla. Genie will be sadly missed by her sisters, Connie Rice, Marguerite and Norman Nelson, Phyllis Smuchilla and Diana Nixon. Auntie Genie will be lovingly remembered and missed by her nieces, Linda Goodwin, Charlene Baker, Teresa Rice and nephews, John Nelson, John Rice and Don Nixon; 11 great-nieces and nephews, many relatives and friends. Her friends, Elizabeth Teixeira, Rosa Rawlings and Maureen Smith were a constant source of encouragement and comfort. Genie was born in Winnipeg and attended Riverview, Lord Roberts and Kelvin High Schools. Gifted in many ways, she enjoyed playing sports, was a talented artist, great knitter and fantastic jam maker. She held many interesting and challenging positions throughout her working career - reservations clerk, managing travel agencies, employed at various federal and provincial departments, until she was forced into early retirement due to failing health. In the last 15 years, Genie resided at Villa Cabrini, Seniors Residence, during which time she volunteered in many varied aspects when her health would permit. Genie will always be remembered for her winning personality and friendliness. The family wishes to thank staff and doctors of the many wards and units of the St. Boniface Hospital for the care and kindness shown our sister over the years, also Home Care and V.O.N. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, April 10 at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church, 510 River Ave. with Rev. Fr. Sam Argenziano officiating. Viewing will be held at 10:00 a.m. prior to Mass. Her cremains will be interred at a later date at a private family graveside service. Pallbearers will be her nieces and nephews. Honorary pallbearer will be her brother-in-law Norman Nelson. If friends desire, in lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Genie may be made to the Movement Centre of Manitoba (Cerebral Palsy), 148 Redview Dr., Winnipeg, MB R2N 3C8 or the Canadian Diabetes Association, 102-310 Broadway, Winnipeg R3C 0S6. Her weary hours of pain Her troubled nights have passed. And in our aching hearts we know She has found sweet rest at last. Always remembered with love - your sisters.
