ISOBEL GEZELA SUDOL (nee KOWALSKI) Isobel Sudol, age 83 years, passed away on March 31, 2000 at the Seven Oaks Hospital. Isobel is survived by her loving husband Stanley; son Garry (Claire) sister Marion; sister-in-law Carrie Grant; brother and sister-in-law, Tony and Irene Sudol; as well as numerous nephews, nieces and cousins. Born in Poland in 1916 and emigrated to Canada with her parents in 1923, settling in Winnipeg. Isobel was educated in Winnipeg attending King Edward, Isaac Newton and St. Johns High School. She was a lifelong member of the Blessed Virgin Mary the Protectress Church. Isobel was very active in the church and community, a member of the church choir and taught catechism and a Cubmaster of the 49th Wolf Cub Pack for 16 years. She was a member of the U.C.W.L. since 1946, serving as Branch, Regional, Provincial President and National Vice-President, also as Organization Chairman. She served on the Ukrainian Canadian Committee womens section as First National Vice-President. She was a volunteer worker for the Red Cross, Community Chest Campaign Chairman and Area Chairman of the United Way. She also served on the board of the Age and Opportunity Centre, Secretary of the Founding Committee of the Selkirk Day Centre, School Trustee of the Winnipeg School Division #1 for 22 years, holding positions as Chairman, Vice-Chairman, and Chairman of the Vocational Advisory, Pension Fund and Police Patrol Committee. She served on the Winnipeg Youth Orchestra Committee and Childrens Theatre and served on the Manitoba Education Research Council. She served on the Manitoba Association of School Trustees as a Director of Winnipeg Division. In 1979 she received an award for her work in the church and community and a long service award from the Manitoba Association of School Trustees. Prayers will be held on Monday, April 10 at 7:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated on Tuesday, April 11 at 10:00 a.m. at Blessed Virgin Mary the Protectress Church, 965 Boyd Ave. with His Excellency Most Rev. Stefan Soroka and Rev. Ernest Hafichuk officiating. Interment to follow in Green Acres Memorial Gardens. If friends so desire, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Isobels memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, 301-352 Donald St., Winnipeg, R3B 2H8.
