TIMOTHY (TIM) NORMAN PECHEY 13 October, 1951 - 9 April, 2000 It is with sadness that we announce the death of Tim Pechey on Sunday, April 9, 2000, after a life-giving journey with and beyond cancer. Tim will be lovingly remembered by his wife Lesley; son Matt; daughter Beth; stepsons, Mark and Michael. Together, they were affectionately known as the MVPs. His memory will also be cherished by his mother Doreen, father Bud, and his brother Ted. The love of his family was one of Tims most treasured gifts. Tim will also be missed by other members of his own and Lesleys families, as well as many friends, colleagues, and young people whose lives he touched and by whom he was truly blessed. Tim enjoyed a lifelong passion for learning. He graduated from elementary and high school in Prince Albert; earned his Bachelor of Arts in English and Honours Certificate in Psychology from the University of Saskatchewan; completed his Elementary Certification program at the University of Manitobas Faculty of Education; and began a part-time study in theology at St. Johns College in 1990. This passion for learning was shared with others throughout Tims 23-year teaching career in the River East School Division. During that time he taught at Salisbury School, Valley Gardens Junior High, John Pritchard and River East Collegiate. In 1983 he became a strong advocate for the special needs of talented students, and to this end he became involved in many programs, activities and organizations. As a child in Prince Albert, Tims baptism in the Anglican Church became the foundation of his lifelong journey in faith; a journey that would lead him to recognize the constant gift of Gods love, transforming pain and sorrow into opportunities to reach out to others. This is also where Tim began his study of classical and sacred music, which offered him lifelong comfort and inspiration. He was a member of All Saints Anglican Church from 1983-1994; St. Albans 1994-1998 where he served as a theology student assistant; and returned to All Saints in 1998. In each parish he shared generously his passion for music and teaching. Many members in each parish and throughout the diocese will cherish his memory. Throughout his lifetime, Tim was active in community service. Countless organizations relying on the commitment and generosity of volunteers benefitted greatly from Tims willingness to serve. Most recently, Tim helped to edit the "Hospice Companion" for Hospice & Palliative Care Manitoba and helped design the Patient Resource Centre for CancerCares "New Building" Program. Tim was also a strong believer in the importance of group support. This was visible through his 25-year membership with Alateen and Al-Anon, and more recently, his involvement with and commitment to the "Living with Cancer" and "Living Beyond Cancer" support groups. Tim highly valued the love and support given and received within the context of these groups. During the last three years of his life, Tim indulged his passion for writing. Through his plays, poetry, articles, and book, Soul Survivor, he hoped to convey a message of celebration and hope. Tim will be remembered as a good and decent man. His faith, hope and love, along with his compassion and sensitivity toward others will continue to be an inspiration to all who knew him. The MVPs would like to thank all those who have offered love and support, especially during the past few weeks, particularly Ray Turner. Special thanks, also, to the staff in the palliative care unit at Riverview Health Centre, and to all Tims doctors and their staff members, for their wonderful support, compassion, and extraordinary skills. Cremation has already taken place. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 15 at 2:00 p.m. at All Saints Anglican Church, Broadway and Osborne. Flowers are gratefully declined. Donations in celebration of Tims life may be made to the CancerCare Manitoba (New Building Program) or Hospice & Palliative Care Manitoba. God has given me the tongue of a teacher, that I may know how to sustain the weary with a word. Morning by morning he....wakens my ear to listen as those who are taught.
