Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryKENNETH McKAY After a brief illness, Kenneth McKay, aged 56 years of Grand Rapids, Man. passed away peacefully on April 11, 2000 at the St. Boniface Hospital in Winnipeg. Ken leaves surviving his loving wife Penny; his mother Florence McKay; sisters, Elsie (Raymond) Settee, Eileen (Stephen) Jones, and Winnifred (Henry) Giesbrecht; a brother Colin (Jeanie) McKay; numerous nieces and nephews, and many dear friends; also daughter Florence (Flossy) and grandson Logan, and his cat Nikki. He was predeceased by his father Valentine McKay in 1971. Ken was born in Grand Rapids on June 30, 1943 and had lived there all his life. He was a skilled bushman and enjoyed many years of trapping, outfitting and commercial fishing. His love of animals and nature gave him many an enjoyable day. He especially liked seeing the elusive lynx. Ken was president of the Manitoba Trappers Association and endeavoured to preserve the ecological balance of nature he so loved and respected. He had worked on the Hydro Electric Projects, testing core samples during the building of Gillam and Grand Rapids Dams. His commercial fishing took him to Inuvik and many years on Lake Winnipeg. An evening prayer service will be held tonight (Thursday, April 13) at 7:00 p.m. in the Gilbart Funeral Chapel, Selkirk. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 15 at 2:00 p.m. in the St. James Anglican Church, Grand Rapids with Rev. Dan Highway officiating. Viewing at the church prior to service. Interment in the Parish Cemetery. "Ken, we love you, your cherished memories are with us until we meet again." God gave me hills to climb and strength for the climbing, faith is to believe what we do not see, and the reward of this faith is to see what we believe.
