MAAIKE WAGEMANN (nee FEIKEMA) With deep sadness we announce her passing on Wednesday, April 12, 2000, after a long illness at the age of 68 years. Maaike was born on January 13, 1932 to her parents, Baukje and Ate Feikema in Sneek, Friesland, Holland. She came to Toronto in 1959, went back to Holland and returned to Canada, Winnipeg, in 1960 where she met her future husband Rudolf. They were married May 20, 1961, and lived in Winnipeg for the next 39 years. Maaike had trained as a nurse in Holland and worked at the King George and Misericordia hospitals as a nurses aid. At the King George, she dedicated herself to caring for polio patients. Maaike grew up on a farm. She was very fond of animals since childhood and she loved to grow flowers which always seemed to thrive under her care. She leaves to mourn her husband Rudolf; her sister Anna Moriconi of Winnipeg; her brothers, Fred Feikema (Betty) of Oshawa, ON and Marcus Feikema (Jannie) of Sneek, Holland; as well as three nieces, Barbara and Ann of Oshawa, and Maria of Georgia, U.S.A.; two nephews, Jacob of Toronto, ON and Fedde of Sneek, Holland and several grandnieces and grandnephews in Holland, Canada and the United States; aunts, Folie of Holland and Jeltje of British Columbia; her sister and brother-in-law, Helen and Wolf Thomson of White Rock, BC, and nephew Harold Thomson of Winnipeg. She was predeceased by her father Ate in 1984 and her mother Baukje in 1988. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held Tuesday, April 18, 11:00 a.m. at the St. Peters Lutheran Church, 65 Walnut St., Winnipeg. As much as Maaike loved flowers in life, she declined them in death. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of ones choice. We thank Dr. John Foerster and the staff of 6A and 3E at the St. Boniface General Hospital for their very kind care of Maaike. NEIL BARDAL INC. 949-2200
