MARSHALL "ERNIE" MORGAN July 12, 1929 - April 11, 2000 With deep sadness, our family announces the passing of Ernie, beloved husband of Edie, at the age of 70 years, after a brief and sudden illness, surrounded by family and friends at the Health Sciences Centre. Predeceased by his parents, Sam and Mildred Morgan of St James, MB; his sister Mildred Bastable and his brothers, Samuel of Anaheim, CA and Joseph and Frank of St. James. He is survived by his sisters, Eleanor (Bill) Barrett of St. James and Anne "Molly" Craig of Victoria, BC. Ernie will be deeply missed by his wife of 49 years, Edie. Dads memory will live on in the hearts of his children, Gregory (Bonnie) of High Bluff, MB, Grant (Carol) of Calgary; daughters, Gayle (Boyd) Halliwell of Sandy Hook, MB, Geri (James) Mekish of Winnipeg. Grandpa will be sadly missed by his beloved grandchildren, Lee-Ann Mekish, Stephen (Daisy), Daryl Mekish, Jan, Jeremy, Lynn, Amber and Sam. He was a very special great-grandfather to Marcus, Malcolm and Kianna. Also, he will be remembered by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Dad will be especially missed by Grace and Frank Steski. Dad was born in St. James at his family home and came to cherish his youthful years in St. James. At the age of 14, beginning with the CNR, Dad enjoyed a life-long career in the transportation industry. In 1950 he married his roller skating sweetheart, Edie Hemming. In October, Mom and Dad would have celebrated their 50th anniversary. His retirement years were richly spent enjoying bird watching, gardening, genealogy, woodworking and chasing the Prairie Dog Central. Recently, Dad took up computers. Visit the Morgan family at ecircles.com. A memorial service and reception in his honour will be held at the St. James United Church, 234 Parkview St. on Saturday, April 15 at 1:00 p.m. Kevin Snyder officiating. All are welcome. In accordance with Dads wishes cremation has taken place. Private interment will be held at a later date. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the many family and friends for their prayers and well wishes during the last few days of his life. Thank you to the staff of the HSC MICU for their wonderful and compassionate care. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Dads memory to the HSC MICU Fund or the Winnipeg Humane Society in honour of his long-time pet and companion, Murphy.
