SOPHIE PHILIPCHUK (NEE SHYMKO) It is with great sorrow that we announce the sudden passing of our dear Mother and Baba at Health Sciences Centre on April 12, 2000. Mom was born in Sarto, MB on December 10, 1926. She moved to Winnipeg as a young adult where she eventually married and lived the rest of her life. Mom is deeply missed and mourned by her family; son Ken (Debbie), three daughters, Georgina Sorokowski (Albert) Arlene: Val (Tommy) six grandchildren, Tammie, Brent, Travis, Joanna, Melissa and Tayna; brother Steve Shymko (Ellen) step brothers, Mike Simcoe, Nick Shymko (Hilda) step sisters, Lena Kowalchuk and Annie Stefiuk, along with numerous relatives and friends. Mom was predeceased by her husband Peter, whom she married on August 6, 1949 and with whom she shared her life with until his passing on June 30, 1979; parents, John and Mary Shymko; step sister Martha Standiland. Prayers will be said on Friday evening, April 14, at 8:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street at Luxton Avenue. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated on Saturday, April 15 at 10:00 a.m. at Blessed Virgin Mary Ukrainian Catholic Church, 965 Boyd Avenue with Fr. Ernie Hafichuk officiating. Interment to follow in All Saints Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Travis Philipchuk, Brent Sorokowski, Terry Shymko, Dennis Shymko, Gary Shymko and Tommy Swanarchuk. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to do so, may make a donation to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, 301-352 Donald Street Wpg, MB, R3B 2H8.
