ALDA BURTON On April 14, 2000 at St. Boniface Hospital, Alda Burton of Winnipeg, died at the age of 79 years. Alda will be greatly missed by her sister Kristrun Turner; son John; nieces, Peggy Dowhayko (Paul), Judy Turner (Chuck), Lois Turner, Thiea Jensen (Paul), Bina Jensen, Pat Trefry, Dawn Dowhayko, Devon Jensen and Alberta Jensen; nephews, Jamie Dowhayko, Don Perry (Moyra), numerous members of the extended family and many close friends. She was predeceased by her husband Alex, her parents and brother Einar Johnson. Alda was proud of her Icelandic heritage and grew up on a farm in Wynyard, Sask., which was home to many Icelandic settlers. After high school she moved to Winnipeg to attend business college and obtain work. She married Alex in 1948 and they lived in North Kildonan from that time. Alda was the school secretary at John Pritchard School for over 25 years. In her retirement years she belonged to the Eager Beavers Fitness Club, the Good Neighbours Senior Centre, the North Kildonan Twirlers and was membership secretary for the Canadian Pacific Pensioners Association. Over the years Alda touched and enriched the lives of many people. She will be remembered by those to whom she gave her time, understanding, caring and love. The family would like to thank the staff of the St. Boniface Dialysis Unit for their care and compassion. Memorial service will be held on Tuesday, April 18 at 2:00 p.m. at Klassen Funeral Chapel, 1897 Henderson Hwy. In lieu of flowers, if friends desire, donations may be made to a charity of ones choice. Arrangements entrusted to Klassen Funeral Chapel, 338-0331.
