JACOB PETER MARTENS
Born: Feb 16, 1911
Date of Passing: Apr 09, 2000
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJACOB PETER MARTENS Our father, Jacob Martens, was born in Kleefeld, Russia on February 16, 1911. Migrating to Canada in 1926 his family settled on a farm near Enterprise. On June 11, 1942, he married Mary Dueck of Minto. For the next 41 years they farmed, first in the Killarney area and then close to Boissevain. Dad loved the land and remained interested in farming until his death. Even last September he drove a combine in the local Food Grains Project. He loved his family and was a great example to all of us. He was very involved in the church and served in many areas. Even in the last minutes of his life he prayed for his family and for the church. He passed away peacefully on April 9, 2000. We will miss his stories, poems and prayers. He was predeceased by his parents, Peter and Aganetha Martens and his brothers, Peter and George. Left to cherish his memory are his wife Mary; sons, John (Gwen), Dave (Emmy), Ben (Ellen) and daughters, Irene Deckert (Lyle) and Helen Penner (Ken) and 17 grandchildren. Funeral service was held Thursday, April 13, in the Boissevain Mennonite Brethren Church. In lieu of flowers donations to Canadian Food Grains Bank would be much appreciated.
