JOHN (JACK) ARCHIBALD BEATTIE John (Jack) Archibald Beattie, Major (Retired), passed away peacefully on April 13, 2000 at the Health Sciences Centre after a lengthy and courageous battle with both Parkinsons Disease and Leukemia. Survived by his children, Jeanette Van Der Hijde, Margaret Hudson (Bruce), David Beattie (Kathy) and Ian Beattie (Angela) and grandchildren, Shayne and Rory, Kate and Marlo, Sarah, Sheena and Scott and Tyler and Trevor. He is also survived by his brother Robert (Grace) Beattie; and his sisters, Elizabeth (Patrick) Parr and Margaret (Peter) Mulkins. After serving briefly with the RCMP, Jack embarked on a career with the Canadian Armed Forces. He retired from the military in 1972 to pursue a career in Real Estate. Jack was a member of the Masons (Gateway Lodge) and a former member of the Little Black Devils Association. Dads illness made it difficult for him to be the independent person he liked to be. The family wishes to give thanks to come very special people who have been there for Dad (and the family) when he needed them: Albert Van Huizen, Ron and Amy Wesley, Cec and Bev Dawkins and Harvey Raybould. The family thanks the doctors, nurses and staff on GD5 for the wonderful care given to Dad. Special thanks also to Dr. Galbraith for his kindness and caring of Dad over the years. A memorial service will be held on Monday, April 17 at 3:00 p.m. at Bardal Funeral Chapel, 843 Sherbrook St. In lieu of flowers, donations in Jacks memory may be made to the Parkinson Foundation of Canada or the Canadian Cancer Society.
