JOHN TALBOT DYMENT John Talbot (Jack), one of Canadas foremost aviation engineers, passed away peacefully in his 96th year in Vancouver on April 5, 2000. Born in Barrie, Ontario, he spent most of his life working in Winnipeg and Montreal. Jack was predeceased by his wife Josephine in 1984 after 56 years of marriage and in 1995 by his son John. He will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his sons, Paul (Sherrie) of Portland, Maine, and David of Vancouver; daughter-in-law Judith of Aurora, Ont.; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. A graduate of Engineering from the University of Toronto, Jack was Chief Engineer for Air Canada for 36 years. Some of his many honours include being elected President of the Society of Automotive Engineers, being named to the University of Toronto Engineering Hall of Distinction, and receiving an honorary doctorate from the University of Toronto. He culminated his long and distinguished career by being elected to the Canadian Aviation Hall of Fame and appointed a Member of the Order of Canada. Jack will be especially remembered for his love of and pride in his sons and their children. He left them the legacy of his life through his memoirs. Jacks curiosity and pursuit of knowledge was constant throughout his life. He was proud of his ballroom dancing and in his 94th year he danced at his grandsons wedding. A celebration of his life was held April 9 in Vancouver and another will be held in Toronto at the home of Judith Dyment, 61 Haskell Crescent, Aurora, Ont., L4G 5T6 on Sunday, June 4 at 5:00 p.m. Friends and family are welcome. Interment will be at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Toronto. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Jack Dyment Memorial Fund, Faculty of Engineering, University of Toronto, 35 St. George St., Rm. 149, Toronto, M5S 1A4.
