SON EXCELLENCE MONSEIGNEUR ANTOINE HACAULT 1926 - 2000 Apres une breve maladie, a lHopital general de Saint-Boniface, le jeudi 13 avril 2000, a lage de 74 ans, Mgr Antoine Leon Hacault, archeveque de Saint-Boniface, ne a Bruxelles, Manitoba le 17 janvier 1926. Monseigneur Hacault fut precede par ses grands-parents Louis et Leontine Hacault, Emile et Mathilde Mangin ainsi que ses parents, Francois Hacault et Irma Mangin, sa belle-mere, Agathe Angers, plusieurs tantes et oncles dont le Pere Gaston Hacault, jesuite. Monseigneur Hacault rejoint dautres membres de la famille qui lont precede: sa soeur Dorothee (Michael), son frere Roland, ses beaux-freres, Maurice Tack (Celine), Adolphe Foidart (Julie), et Louis Fiola (Jeanne) ainsi que ses belles-soeurs Odile Rheault (Jean) et Monica Gagnon (Benoit). Monseigneur Hacault laisse dans le deuil deux tantes, Rose Mangin et Dorothee Maples (Angers), huit freres et sept soeurs: Hubert (Marie), Anna (Simon), Louise (Achille), Julie, Celine, Jean, Benoit, Armand (Yvette), Mathilde (Jean), Jeanne, Germaine, Lucien (Simonne), Michel (Patsy), Gaston (Heather) et Emile (Sylvie). Il laisse aussi dans le deuil un quatrieme beau-frere, Michael, ainsi que de tres nombreux neveux et nieces, cousins et cousines et toute la communaute de la paroisse de Bruxelles. Ton grand amour pour la famille nest pas passe inapercu. Ta simplicite et ton humilite ont marque tous ceux que Dieu a mis sur ta route et ta grande joie nous marquera pour toujours. Que Dieu taccueille a bras ouverts dans son royaume et quIl taccorde une place privilegiee aupres des siens! Antoine Hacault fit ses etudes primaires a lecole Sainte-Marie, Bruxelles, ses etudes secondaires et universitaires au College de Saint-Boniface (1939-1947) et ses etudes theologiques au Grand Seminaire de Saint-Boniface. Il obtint un doctorat a lUniversite Saint-Thomas (Angelicum) a Rome (1954) ainsi que des doctorats honorifiques de St. Johns College, Winnipeg, de lUniversite du Manitoba et du College universitaire de Saint-Boniface. Mgr Hacault fut ordonne pretre par Son Excellence Mgr Georges Cabana a Bruxelles le 20 mai 1951. Lors de son ordination a lepiscopat, il choisit comme devise: "In Evangelium servus Dei" "Dans et par lannonce de lEvangile, etre serviteur de Dieu". Eveque auxiliaire le 30 juillet 1964, il est nomme coadjuteur le 28 octobre 1972. Le 7 septembre 1974, il devient le sixieme eveque et le cinquieme archeveque de Saint-Boniface. Le 15 janvier 1975, il recoit le pallium. Labbe Hacault fut vicaire a Saint-Eugene (1951), aumonier au Sanatorium de Saint-Boniface, Saint-Vital (1954) aumonier de lAssociation deducation des Canadiens-francais du Manitoba (1956) professeur de theologie au Grand Seminaire (1954-1964) vicaire dominical a Notre-Dame-de-lAssomption, Transcona, ainsi qua la paroisse Blessed Sacrament (1956) directeur de la revue "Les Cloches de Saint-Boniface", promoteur de lOeuvre diocesaine au Bresil (1961) et recteur du College de Saint-Boniface (1966-1969). Il fut theologien personnel de Son Excellence Mgr Baudoux pour le Concile Vatican II. Il fut membre du Secretariat pour les Non-croyants (1973-1983). Le Pape Jean XXIII la nomme parmi les "Periti" (les experts) du Concile. Il fut membre du Conseil pontifical pour la promotion de lunite des chretiens (1976-1989) et membre du Conseil dadministration de lHopital general de Saint-Boniface (1975-2000). Il fut president de la Commission episcopale de liturgie (secteur francophone) 1987-2000, et du Comite de diffusion des celebrations liturgiques (1977-2000). Il fut president de la Conference des Eveques de lOuest (W-CC-O) 1988-1992. Des temps de prieres et de visites auront lieu: a la Cathedrale de Saint-Boniface le lundi 17 avril de 14h a 22h, avec priere officielle a 19h; le mardi 18 avril dans le Grand Salon de lArcheveche, de 10h a 17h30; le mercredi 19 avril a la Cathedrale de Saint-Boniface de 9h a 12h. Les funerailles auront lieu a la Cathedrale de Saint-Boniface le mercredi 19 avril a 14h. Vu linteret marque de Mgr Hacault pour la releve des pretres et la formation de nouveaux pasteurs dans lEglise, nous invitons les gens qui le desirent a laisser une offrande en prolongement de lesprit qui la anime durant toute sa vie, pendant les temps de priere ou de visite a la Cathedrale ou a lArcheveche. HIS GRACE ARCHBISHOP ANTOINE HACAULT 1926 - 2000 In the presence of numerous brothers and sisters, relatives and close friends, at St. Boniface General Hospital, on April 13, 2000, Monseigneur Antoine Leon Hacault, Archbishop of St. Boniface, passed away at the age of 74. Monseigneur Hacault was born in Bruxelles, Manitoba on January 17, 1926 and was predeceased by his grandparents Louis and Leontine Hacault, Emile and Mathilde Mangin and his parents, Francois Hacault and Irma Mangin, and his stepmother, Agathe Angers, numerous aunts and uncles, notably Father Gaston Hacault, a Jesuit priest. Monseigneur Hacault was predeceased by other members of his family; his sister Dorothee (Michael), his brother Roland, brothers-in-law, Maurice Tack (Celine), Adolphe Foidart (Julie), and Louis Fiola (Jeanne), also his sisters-in-law Odile Rheault (Jean) and Monica Gagnon (Benoit). He is survived by two aunts, Rose Mangin and Dorothee Angers, eight brothers and seven sisters, Hubert (Marie), Anna (Simon), Louise (Achille), Julie, Celine, Jean, Benoit, Armand (Yvette), Mathilde (Jean), Jeanne, Germaine, Lucien (Simonne), Michel (Patsy), Gaston (Heather), Emile (Sylvie) and a fourth brother-in-law, Michael. He is also survived by numerous nephews, nieces and cousins. The small community of Bruxelles, Man., also mourns his death. The love you have shown your family and friends did not go unnoticed. Humble and sincere, you never wavered from the path God had chosen for you. May he greet you with open arms and let you share in the life everlasting. Antoine Hacault attended school in his hometown and at Saint Boniface College where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts Degree in June 1947. He studied Theology at Saint Boniface Major Seminary. Pursuing post-graduate studies at the Saint Thomas Angelicum University in Rome, he received a doctorate in Sacred Theology in 1954. He was ordained to the priesthood on May 20, 1951 by The Most Rev. Georges Cabana in Bruxelles. When he was ordained Bishop, he took as his motto: "In Evangelium - Servus Dei" "In the preaching of the Gospel, servant of the Lord". He was elected Auxiliary Bishop on July 30, 1964 and was appointed Coadjutor on October 28, 1972. On September 7, 1974, he became Archbishop of Saint Boniface. He was sixth Bishop and fifth Archbishop of the Archdiocese. The imposition of the Pallium was held on January 15, 1975. Father Antoine Hacault was Professor of Theology at Saint Boniface Major Seminary for ten years. He was also Sunday assistant at Notre-Dame de lAssomption and Blessed Sacrament Parishes in Transcona. He Shared in the organization of the diocesan missionary activities in Brazil. He served as Rector of Saint Boniface College (1966-1969). In 1962, as personal theologian to the Archbishop of Saint Boniface, Most Rev. Maurice Baudoux, he participated in the Second Vatican Ecumenical Council. Pope John XXIII appointed him among the Periti (the experts) of the Council. He served on the Secretariat for Non-believers (1973-1983) and the Council for the Promotion of Christian Unity (1976-1989). Archbishop Antoine Hacault was on the Board of Directors of Saint Boniface General Hospital from 1975-2000and on various Episcopal Commissions (French Sector): Liturgy (1987-1991), Social Communications (1991-1995) and was currently President of the Episcopal Commission for Liturgy (French Sector). From 1988-1992, he was President of the Western Conference of Catholic Bishops (W-CC-O). He was also President of the Manitoba Catholic Conference. His Grace Archbishop Hacault has been the recipient of honorary degrees: from St. Johns College, Winnipeg, University of Manitoba and le College universitaire de Saint-Boniface . He was also recipient of the Catholic Foundation of Manitoba "Caritas Award" (1996). Prayers and visitation will be held on Monday, April 17 from 2:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m with the Official Prayer beginning at 7:00 p.m.; on Tuesday, April 18 in the Grand Salon at the Archbishops House from 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.; on Wednesday, April 19, at St. Boniface Cathedral from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. The funeral mass will be celebrated at the St. Boniface Cathedral on Wednesday, April 19 at 2:00 p.m. As Archbishop Hacault was always concerned with vocations to the priesthood and the formation of pastors, those who wish may make an offering in keeping with his spirit, during the time of prayer and visitation at the Cathedral or the Archbishops House.
