ELSIE WINONA McLAREN MEADOWS "..more precious than jewels.." April 25, 1913 - April 15, 2000 It is with great sadness that the family of Mrs. Elsie Meadows shares the news of her death at the age of 86 years. Elsie is survived by her children, Mervyn-Annemarie and Kirsten; Alison-Todd and Brett; Allan (Marieke)-Brandy and Cassie; and Lea (Jeremy) by other loved family members; and many cherished friends. Elsie joins her beloved husband Harry, who died November 22, 1999. She was also predeceased by her youngest daughter Helen-Adele, and her brother Roy. Elsie faced many challenges and experienced many joys in her life. Having polio as an adolescent, she was told she would never walk again. She went on to enjoy many sports, especially curling, as a young woman. In a time when few women went to university, she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree. Elsie served her church faithfully as a ministers wife, to such a degree that Harry described their work as "our team ministry". She was a seeker - studying extensively in the fields of counselling, faith, and prayer. This served her well in her years of work both within the church and outside the home with the YWCA in Edmonton from which she retired as Counselling and Residence Director. We love her so and will miss her greatly. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Heart Fund, The Cancer Society, or Edmonton General Hospital Palliative Care Unit. A Funeral Service will be held at Connelly-McKinley Funeral Home on Wednesday, April 19 at 3:00 p.m. with Reverend Vernon Wishart officiating, private cremation.
