JESSIE BERCK On Sunday, April 16, 2000, Jessie Berck passed away at the age of 85 after a lengthy illness. Born in Koretz, Poland on October 16, 1914, Jessie came to Winnipeg as a teenager. Working in a garment factory, she became involved in progressive political and social causes which remained important to her throughout her life. A devoted wife, mother and grandmother, Jessie was a woman with a great zest for life. She had many friends in Winnipeg, Palm Springs and Toronto who shared her passion for tennis, badminton, walking, opera, theatre and ballet. Jessie is survived by her loving children, Brenda, Dorothy (Paul) Garfinkel and Phyllis (Bruce Kidd) and grandchildren, Jonathan, Stephen and Joshua. She was predeceased by her husband Ben, and her brother Sam. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, April 19 at 10:00 a.m. at the Rosh Pina Memorial Park at 2795 Main St. Jessies family is grateful to the staff of Home Care Services Manitoba, Central Health Services, the Victoria General Hospital and Dr. A. Lipson who provided excellent and compassionate care over the past three years.
