SHIRLEY ( BETTY) ELIZABETH VIRGINIA NAIRN Peacefully on Monday, April 17, 2000 at the Riverview Health Centre, Betty passed away into the presence of the Lord at the age of 80. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Laurie in 1991. Born September 10, 1919 in Montreal to Reginald and Aemelia Hawkins, Betty grew up on the shores of the St. Lawrence Seaway in Woodlands, Quebec. Always the athlete, Mom excelled in golf, baseball and many water sports in her youth. She married Laurie in September of 1951 and moved to Winnipeg in 1953. In her adult years, Betty grew to love the game of curling and was actively involved in the sport, serving in a variety of capacities including Ladies President at the Pembina Curling Club. Mom loved the outdoors and would spend many hours with Dad camping and fishing with friends during the summer months. Her hobbies and interests included baking, knitting, bridge and most enjoyably, bingo. Throughout her lifetime Mom was an avid fan of all of her childrens and grandchildrens endeavours and was always ready to host any friends who would come through the door of her home. The family would like to thank the many physicians and professionals who cared for Mom during her illness including Dr. Permack and the oncology staff at Victoria General Hospital. Also a special thank you to the kind and caring staff at the Riverview Palliative Care Ward.
