EMMA TANKARD Peacefully, on Tuesday, April 18, 2000, Emma Tankard, aged 80 years, passed away at the Concordia Hospital with family by her side. She was predeceased by her husband Douglas and her daughter Angela. Emma will be sadly missed by her children, Sandra, John (Lilian) and Wilma (Dave) Clarkson; nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Vera Teale; and dear friend Anna Cherewyk; and many friends and relatives in England. Emma was born in West Yorkshire, England, where she was raised and met and married Douglas on June 15, 1940. During the Second World War, she served as an Aircraft Inspector at Austins Longbridge and with the First Aid Post at Birmingham. Emma and her family immigrated to Winnipeg, Canada in 1953, where she worked as a bookkeeper for various companies until her retirement. She was one of the first residents in East Park Lodge, where she was active in tenant affairs. Emma was also very active with the Winnipeg League for the Hard of Hearing. She loved travelling to warmer climates, most recently to stay with Wilma and family in the Southern States. A particular joy of hers was spending time with Brittany. She will be remembered for her cheerful disposition, gentle sense of humour and her sensible and compassionate nature. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 22 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Georges/Blessed Sacrament Church, 425 Rosseau Ave. E., Transcona, with Rev. Victoria Shaw-Zdanowski officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Emmas memory to the Winnipeg League for the Hard of Hearing, 825 Sherbrook St., Winnipeg, MB R3A 1M5.
