Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryGEORGE CHARLTON DENNIS May 31, 1911 - April 15, 2000 It is with sadness that the family announces the peaceful passing of George Dennis at Victoria General Hospital. He was predeceased in 1995 by Millie, his beloved wife of 53 years; and his parents, Florence Augusta and Herbert John Dennis; and his many siblings. George will be missed and lovingly remembered by his four children and their spouses, Patricia (Melvin) Webber of Burlington, ON, Kenneth Dennis of Winnipeg, Colleen (Roger) Moir of Winnipeg, and James (Brenda) Dennis of Cochrane Alberta; and by his six grandchildren, Jeffrey (Beverly) Webber of Calgary, Ian (Michele) Webber of Corpus Christi, Texas, Courtney and Hilary Moir, and Michael and Charlotte Dennis; and by his two great-grandchildren, Danielle and Jerome Webber. George was born in Winnipeg, where he lived most of his life. He graduated with a degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Manitoba in 1939. Upon graduation he took Engineering positions with Dominion Rubber and subsequently Dominion Bridge Co. In 1942, he began work for the City of Winnipeg, in the position of Engineer in charge of Snow Clearing and Street Cleaning and eventually became the Supervisor of Works and Operations. He joined the military in 1943 and served at the rank of Lieutenant until his discharge in 1945. At that time, he returned to Winnipeg, where he continued his career with the City until his retirement in 1976. He also worked part-time as the Engineer for the Town of Tuxedo for a period of time. In his latter years, George enjoyed many hours reflecting on the happy times spent with family picnicking, fishing, canoeing, camping and eventually building "The Camp" at Lake of the Woods. He also found lifelong pleasure in several passionate interests including photography, genealogy research, and metal/wood working projects. He and Millie enjoyed long walks along the Red River and car trips throughout the province and Western Canada. Many thanks to the staff at the Victoria General Hospital (Unit 3) for their patience and caring. A memorial service in celebration of Georges life will be held Saturday, April 22 at 2:00 p.m. at the Leatherdale Gardiner Funeral Chapel, 1501 Waverley St., 949-4860. Should friends desire, donations in Georges memory may be made to Canadian Cancer Society, 193 Sherbrook St., Winnipeg, MB R3C 2B7.
