MARTHA MONKMAN (nee BUDAU) With deep sorrow we announce the peaceful passing of our dearly beloved Mother, Martha Monkman at age 88, on April 25, 2000, at Eastgate Lodge in Beausejour, Manitoba. Mom was born at Walsh, Alberta on March 20, 1912 to John and Catherine Budau. She was predeceased by her parents, sister Sophie Beglau and Emily Sanford; brothers, Jake, Adolf and Carl Budau; daughter-in-law Phyllis Monkman; nephews, Elmer Budau, Lawrence, Art and Emil Beglau; and niece Pearl Beglau. Left to cherish her memory are children, Betty (Roy) Buss, Katherine Monkman, Doreen (Edgar) Bruce, Monty (Trudy) and Stanford Monkman. Grandchildren, Joan, Norma, Cindy, and Dale Buss; Leslie, Tessa and Sandra Bruce; David, Kyle and Kristen Monkman; Kelvin and Jennifer Monkman; and six great-grandchildren. Surviving her are sister-in-law Mary Budau; nieces, Freida Beglau, Helen Bierle, Rose Budau, Rose Kossatz; nephews, Larry and Paul Beglau; and families, as well as other relatives too numerous to mention. Mom loved to knit, especially baby outfits which are scattered across the prairies. Seeing her seeds spring to life was one of her greatest joys be it flowers or veggies. "Auntie Budau" loved to have her "little kickers" come for summer visits. She loved baking treats for family and friends. Some of her favourite pastimes were dancing, crossword puzzles, picking wild berries, pickling and canning, as well as teasing her grandchildren. "Skinny Gran" will be lovingly remembered by all her grandchildren and adopted grandchildren. Honorary pallbearers will be her grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Clarence, Gordie and Jackie Monkman, Raymond and Dexter Roche and Clarence Sveinson. The family wishes to thank the staff of Eastgate Lodge of Beausejour for their outstanding care and compassion especially Darleen and Lois who were with us during her final hours. Funeral service will be held on Friday April 28 at 3:00 p.m. at the Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave., with Pastor Jake Wiebe presiding. Visitation will occur one-half hour prior to the service. God looked around His garden and found an empty space. He then looked down upon this earth and saw your tired face. He put His arms around you and lifted you to rest. Gods garden must be beautiful, He only takes the best. We love you and will forever miss you. Rest in Peace. • I did not know Martha but would really like to correspond with her family. My children do not know much about the Budau side of the family but would really like to know more about their history. If someone could contact me glbudau@telus.net, I would really appreciate it. Regards, Linda Budau - Posted by: Linda Budau (Daughter-in-law of Carl Budau) on: Apr 12, 2022
