PAULINE JOHNSON Peacefully at her home on Sunday, April 23, 2000, Pauline Johnson passed away. Pauline was born November 14, 1895 at Hornafjordur, Iceland. She immigrated to Canada in 1900 with her parents, Brynjolfur and Margret Johnson, also her sister Rosa. Pauline spent her entire working career as a school teacher, retiring in 1961. She taught in many country and town schools in Manitoba and one in Alberta. She spent quite a few years teaching in Lundar where she enjoyed being close to home. On her 100th birthday in 1995, her former student, Don Johnson, donated generously along with the community, to start a library in her name. The library was completed in 1998. She was a member of the Icelandic National League, and a lifetime member of the Lutheran Church. She will be lovingly missed by her brother Hjalti; and nephews and nieces, Vera Thompson (nephew Stanleys widow), Margaret Tomasson, Eileen Nesbitt, Eleanor Thompson, Betty (Lou) Berthelet, Harold Thompson, May (Roger) Ryplanski, Allan (Louise) Thompson, Linda (Bruce) Hoffstrom and Sylvia (Clint) Smith, and Robert Thompson; as well as 31 great-nieces and nephews; and 26 great-great-nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents; her sister Rosa; her sister and brother-in-law Hlif and Helgi Thompson; her brother Ragnar; and two nephews, Stanley and Clifford Thompson; also great-nephew Donald Berthelet; and great-niece Jennifer Munro. Funeral service will be held on Monday, May 1 at 2:00 p.m. in the Lundar Lutheran Church, with Pastor Bob Lewis officiating. Interment to follow in the Otto Cemetery. Viewing will be held at the church one hour prior to the service. Pallbearers will be David Munro, Damian Stiles, Lori Evenden, Debbie Nesbitt, Brent Thompson and Derek Ryplanski. Flowers gratefully declined. Donations may be made to the Lundar Lutheran Church Memorial Fund, or to the Pauline Johnson Library, Box 698, Lundar, MB, or to a charity of ones choice. Family has appreciated very much the thoughtful services of all her caregivers and friends.
