PAULINE PAWLYSHYN Pauline Pawlyshyn, 95 years of age passed away Tuesday, April 25, 2000 at St. Boniface Hospital. Pauline was born on April 2, 1905 in the village Ubeni, near Lviv in Western Ukraine, the daughter of Pelagia and Alexander Chornoby. She arrived in Canada in 1927 and worked at St. Josephs Orphanage and private homes. In 1929 she married Michael Pawlyshyn who passed away in 1963. She was an active parishioner at Sts. Vladimir and Olga Cathedral. In 1944 she was on the organizing committee for the founding of the Ukrainian Catholic Womens League of Canada. At Sts. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church, she helped organize a branch of the UCWL and served many years on the Executive and in various capacities. She was a member of the churches Seniors Club. In addition, she worked many years in Ukrainian organizations. The early years were at Prosvita, Taras Shevchenko branch in St. Boniface. Later she was a founding member of the Organizations of Ukrainian Canadian Women and the UNF and was active as secretary and participated in national conferences. She was a member of the Ukrainian Cultural and Educational Centre, the Ukrainian Canadian Committee and the Ukrainian Fraternal Society. Artistically, she sang in Ukrainian opera productions, especially the role of Natalka in "Natalkas Poltavka" and organized singing groups of women to visit hospitals. At Ukrainian concerts she often recited poetry. To Pauline, love of her Ukrainian heritage and language were paramount. Her loyalty to the beliefs of the Ukrainian Catholic Church sustained her in her life. Pauline always had a smile and a greeting for everyone. She was seen as a gracious lady. She leaves in sorrow her daughters, Geraldine (Peter) Seneshen and Donna (Alexander) Bott; six grandchildren, Terry (Karen) Seneshen, Valerie (Jack) Musgrove, Dr. David Seneshen, Darlene (Stan) Vereb, Stephen Bott, Michael Bott and eight great-grandchildren. Prayers (Panahyda) will be sung 7:00 p.m., Monday, May 1 at Sts. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church, 390 Marion St. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, May 2 also at the church. Interment to follow at All Saints Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Terry Seneshen, Dr. David Seneshen, Stephen Bott, Michael Bott, Jack Musgrove and Stan Vereb.
