SIDNEY SHEPS 1919 - 2000 It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Sidney Sheps on April 24, 2000 at Victoria General Hospital, after illness following a heart attack. He was 81 years old. He is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Leah; his daughter Carrie (David, Jamie, Dianna) and his son David (Heather, Douglas, Daisy). He was predeceased by his parents, George and Polly to whom he was greatly devoted, and by his beloved brother Dr. Jack. He leaves behind siblings, Dr. Cecil (Anne), Dr. Lucille Ellison (Dr. Earl), Dr. Sheldon (Pearl) and many nieces, nephews and cousins for whom he cared deeply. He will also be sorely missed by Dr. David Sheps, son of his late brother Jack; by Pearl Yaffe, Essie Klein and Helen Wolfson. Many thanks to Denise and Georgina who cared for him at the hospital. Sidney graduated from law school at the University of Manitoba and developed the successful business Sidney G. Sheps and Associates. He later continued his insurance business with Johnson and Higgins Willis Faber. In later life, travel was his passion. He organized trips with disabled children, and then with friends. This developed into a business which took trips world wide. He made a great many friends through his businesses and travels over the years. Sidney was past President of both the Shaarey Zedek Synagogue and the Manitoba Opera Association, and was active in many other professional, business and charity groups. He was a kind, generous and loving man, devoted to his family and friends, and remembered warmly by those he knew. This large circle of friends grew from the kind attention with which he treated people. The funeral service was held at Shaarey Zedek Synagogue on April 28. Pallbearers were David Sheps, Dr. Sheldon Sheps, Dr. David Sheps, Dr. Martin Yaffe, Lorne Wolfson and Joel Dudeck. Donations may be made in Sidneys name to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or to ones charity of choice.
