STEVEN MAKAR Steve passed away peacefully on April 27, 2000, after a courageous battle with cancer. Steve is survived by Ann, his wife of 49 years; son and daughter-in-law Michael (Mick) and Lorrie; daughter and son-in-law Judy and Chris Rousseau; his precious grandchildren, Jon and Haley Makar and Lyle and Ryan Rousseau; his brother and sister-in-law Harry and Ann and by many nieces and nephews. Steve was predeceased by his brothers Bill and Peter, sister Olga and parents Michael and Anatasia. Steve was born in Lviv in the Ukraine on November 15, 1919 and grew up in Zibolke, Ukraine. He immigrated to Glendon, Alberta with his family in 1937. Steve came to Winnipeg in 1939 and volunteered for service in the Canadian Armed Forces. He fought for Canada throughout Europe in the Second World War. Upon his return to Canada, Steve worked as a tailor, furrier, with the Canadian National Railway and for the City of Winnipeg for many years. He retired in 1984. Steve enjoyed hockey, baseball and reading but his greatest joy was being with his grand-children. The family wish to thank all the wonderful staff of 3 East at Riverview Health Care Centre for their care and compassion. Special thanks to Lisa and our volunteer Gina who always had a smile to give. In lieu of flowers, the family would ask you to consider a donation to the Riverview Health Care Centre. Services will be held on Tuesday, May 2 at 11:00 a.m. at Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd., Winnipeg. Viewing will commence one hour earlier.
