SUMINO (NAGASHIMA) MATSUBARA Peacefully on April 28, 2000, at Beacon Hill Lodge in Winnipeg. Mama was born on November 27, 1902 in Amakusa, Japan. She emigrated to Canada in 1924. Predeceased by her husband, Keitaro in 1976 and sons Haruo in 1937, Hideo in 1964 and Tekeo in 1994. Survived by daughters, Shizuko Ota of Amakusa, Kasuko (Roland) Kudo of Owen Sound and Haruko (Tsutomu) Miyate of Winnipeg; sons, Nobuo (Yoneko) and Tadao (Yoshiko) daughter-in-law Yoshiko (widow of Takeo) all of Winnipeg. Grandchildren, Yukiko (Keishi) and Kyoko both in Japan; Tim (Kelly), Joy, David, Fred (Sheila), Kenneth, Donald (Caroline), Robert (Tina), Tannis (Mark), Mark (Roben) and Peter. Also by nine great-grandchildren. The family would like to thank the caregivers at Beacon Hill Lodge for their kindness and care. Private family viewing will be followed by cremation. Memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 2 at the Bardal Funeral Home, 843 Sherbrook St. Reception will follow. Rev. Y. Masaki of the Japanese United Church will officiate.
