Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryGERMAINE CYR (LAVALLEE) (Marie Anna Germaine Antionette Cyr) One week after her 91st birthday, Germaine Cyr died early Saturday morning, April 29, 2000 at her residence in the Maples Personal Care Home, Winnipeg. For over 40 years, Germaine was the beloved partner-in-life of J. Albert Pierre ("Pitt") Lavallee, who predeceased her May 30, 1986. She is survived by her son Albert Lavallee of Winnipeg, numerous nieces and nephews, special grandson John Richthammer of Winnipeg; sister-in-law Yvonne Cyr of Weyburn, Sask., Terry Bell Lavallee of Chilliwack, B.C. (who considered Germaine her second Mom), former daughter-in-law Emilie Lavallee of Kelowna and her daughter Therese Lussier of Vancouver. Marie Anna Germaine Antionette Cyr was born at St. Leon, Man., April 22, 1909, to a farmer Zenon Cyr (1883-1937) and former teacher Alexina Fraser (1883-1933). Germaine was the last surviving member of their family of six, having been predeceased by siblings Leon (1965 & wife Rosina 1993), Lea (1927), Hector (1976), newborn sister (1912), Eugene (1915). Germaine grew up on the family homestead in Souris Valley, Sask. After her parents deaths, she moved to Winnipeg c. 1937 and joined the workforce as a self-reliant young woman. For many years she was a seamstress in many Winnipeg garment companies, such as Winnipeg Pant, Western Junior Wear, Donald & Hart Co., and Perths. Germaine was then a member of Amalgamated Clothing Workers of America. She particularly enjoyed family gatherings, car travel and cooking. Germaine and Albert lived for many years at 262 Highland Ave. in West Kildonan before retiring in 1976 to 875 Elizabeth Road in Windsor Park. They were members of Holy Family Roman Catholic Church in St. Boniface. Germaine moved to the Maples Personal Care Home in January 1987. Grateful thanks to all the devoted caregivers who so tenderly and admirably cared for Germaine throughout the 13 years she lived at Maples. Germaine was also predeceased by the following children of her life partner: Arthur "Bob" (1993), Fernand "Vern" (1998), Gilbert (1970), Georges (1986), Jeannette Richthammer (1990) and Paul-Emile (1979). Prayer service, officiated by Fr. Leonce Aubin of La Broquerie, will take place Thursday, May 4 at 11:00 a.m. in the P. Coutu Funeral Chapel, 156 Marion St., with visitation preceding prayers. Interment will follow at Glen Lawn Memorial Gardens, Highway 59 South, in the Garden of the Good Shepherd, where Germaine will be laid to rest beside Albert, whom she greatly missed.
