Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryARTHUR DONALD SWITZER Born October 10, 1927. Passed away peacefully at his home on April 30, 2000, surrounded by loved ones, after a courageous battle with leukemia. Arthur was predeceased by his father, Sidney Oscar Switzer and a sister, Irene Switzer. He is survived by his mother, Katie Switzer; three sisters, Edith Kidner, Kathleen Shesterniak, and Lorraine White; four children, Kate Hobbs, Barbra French, Dawn Rees, and David Switzer; two grandchildren, Ryan Hatt and Sara Rees. He was born in Fisher Branch, but moved to Winnipeg at a very young age. As a youth he loved running, sports and sailing, and following school he served in the Air Force near the end of the Second World War. He then married Lorraine French, and devoted himself to his family and career. He worked a number of years for C.P.R. and then later for Brunswick, installing and servicing bowling lanes across western Canada and developing a love of bowling. For the remainder of his career he worked for Lucerne Foods, retiring in 1992. His love of sailing led him to build several boats, culminating with his 25 foot trimaran, which he captained for over 20 years on Lake Winnipeg. He was an avid and accomplished bowler, and pursued this love with vigour following retirement, earning many honours and awards, and calling Chateau Lanes his second home. Memorial services will be held at Sparling United Church, 1609 Elgin Ave. West on Thursday May 4 at 11:00 a.m. with a graveside service to follow at Brookside Cemetery. Donations in Arthurs memory will be gratefully accepted to the Patient Comfort Fund of Ward GD6, Health Sciences Centre, 820 Sherbrook St., Winnipeg, MB. R3A 1R9.
