ROY FREDERICK JOHNSON With deep sorrow, the family announces the peaceful passing of Roy at home on his 85th birthday, April 27, 2000. Born April 27, 1915, Roy was the only child of John and Alice Johnson. Growing up in West Kildonan, Roy attended Ralph Brown School, and entered the work force at an early age. He worked as an upholsterer before serving in the Canadian Air Force overseas in the Second World War. Prior to going overseas, Roy married Betty Muddeman in 1941. After the war, Roy started working at North Star Oil (later Shell Oil) as a truck driver. Holding various positions within the company, Roy advanced to Marketing Manager. In 1968 he left Shell and went into the fiberglass boat manufacturing business, opening his own plant, Canadian Fiberglass Boat & Canoe Manufacturing. Upon semi-retiring, Roy resumed his trade as an upholsterer to keep him busy until his retirement in 1985. He enjoyed his retirement years with his wife Betty, wintering in Sarasota, FL and enjoying their family cottage at Wanasing Beach in the summer. It was at the cottage that Roy loved to "putter" and feed the birds and chipmunks. Roys great love of animals brought an array of pets into their home, especially dogs. Roy was predeceased by his son Kenny in 1957; his daughter Joan in 1988, and his wife Betty in 1997. He is survived by his children, David (Joanne), Susan, Colleen (Randy) son-in-law Gerry (Laurey) grandchildren, Lori (Gary), Kristi (Jason), Scott, Heidi, Shawn, Chelsey, Luke, Jesse, Lexus, Joshua and Alysha and his great-grandchild Cole will miss "Pop". Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at St. Albans Anglican Church, Rathgar and Osborne on Friday, May 5 at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Donna Ball officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Winnipeg Humane Society, 5 Kent St., Winnipeg, MB R2L 9Z9.
