ROBERT WILLIAM STALKER On Monday, May 1, 2000, Robert William Stalker passed away peacefully at the Riverview Health Centre. Besides his beloved wife Madeline, he leaves to mourn his daughter Diane Gorman and her family, Michael, Lorelei (Wyatt) Buffington and Dianna (David) Calvin; two great-grandchildren, Ryan and Rachel Buffington; son Robert Jr. (Charlotte) and their family, Jason (Tracy), Jeffrey (Cristina), Joanne and boyfriend Michael Norris; sister Mary Beamish of Salt Spring Island, B.C. also sisters-in-law, Gennie Stalker and Betty Stalker of Victoria B.C.; brother-in-law Roland Price of Whiterock, B.C. He will also be deeply missed by his life long friend Charlie Conklin of Abbotsford, B.C. Robert was born in North Kildonan in 1913 and lived most of his life in North and East Kildonan. Along with his three brothers, Bill, Johnny and Sam and his long-time partner Jack Laskey, Bob operated Glenwood Motors for 38 years, selling his majority interest in 1967. After one year of retirement, he worked for the next six years with Merchants Consolidated Ltd. Bob was a member of the Automotive Trades Association for many years and was also on the building board of the YM-YWCA of Elmwood/Kildonan when it was being built. But what he enjoyed most of all was the years working to help found and build Rossmere Golf and Curling Club along with many other members. He sat on the Board for 12 years as Treasurer and was presented with a lifetime membership in October 1961. Bob was well-known in the community for his honesty and integrity and will always be remembered for his cheerful disposition and gentle sense of humour. He lived life to the fullest enjoying golfing, curling, hunting, fishing, horseshoes and his special times at Caddy Lake. Bob and Madeline, along with their family, celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on April 19, 2000. The family would like to thank the staff of 311B Concordia Hospital for their care during the time he spent there and also the wonderful caregivers during his last two weeks at Riverview Health Centre Palliative Care, 3 East. And we especially wish to thank Dr. A. Kong for the wonderful care she gave to Bob over the past difficult times. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at Klassen Funeral Chapel, 1897 Henderson Hwy. on Friday, May 5 at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Joe Redpath officiating.
