Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryHOWARD (HOWIE) WOOD Peacefully on May 3, 2000 at Deer Lodge Centre, Howard Francis Wood Jr., beloved husband of Christine, passed away at the age of 81 years. Howard was predeceased by his parents, Howard Sr. and Bessie, and his beloved son Bob. Besides his wife of 58 years, he will be lovingly remembered by his children, Dr. Larry (Elaine) of Chicago, Dr. Victor (Teri) of Victoria, Betty Vogt (George Hallin) of Minneapolis, Howie (Kim) of Winnipeg, Bruce (Ming) of Ottawa, and Ken and David of Vancouver and daughters-in-law Elizabeth Puchalski of Nanaimo and Maggie Ross of Vancouver as well as 17 grandchildren, Catherine, John, Theresa, Peter and James; Scott and Jeff; Stephanie and Andrea; Mark and Jeremiah; Amy, Laura and Sara; Jorah Kai; and Nicholas and Aidan. Howard is also survived by his only brother Lionel (Colleen) of Edmonton. Howard was a loving and caring husband, father and grandfather. He instilled in his children the importance of education and always put their interests first. He was known as "Poppa" to his grandchildren who so enjoyed his many visits. After serving in the R.C.A.F., and returning from overseas service, Howard worked with Investors Group for 35 years. He was a former member of St. Ignatius parish and an honorary Knight of Columbus. He was an avid curler and a member of the Granite Curling Club for many years. During his lifetime, he won several curling championships including The Macdonalds Brier Dominion Championship with his Dad in 1940. After winning the Provincial playdowns, he represented Manitoba at the Brier in 1957, and he represented Manitoba at the Seniors Canadian Championship in 1970. Whether a participant or a spectator, Howard enjoyed all sports, but especially liked fishing and badminton at Clearwater Bay. As well, he was an ardent bridge player. Howard was loved and respected by all that knew him, and will be sadly missed. His family gratefully thanks the staff at T-5 Deer Lodge Centre, especially Charlotte, for the years of loving and compassionate care. In keeping with Dads wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be a celebration of his life on Saturday, May 6 at 2:30 p.m. in Thomson Funeral Chapels, 669 Broadway.
