FREDA JONSSON (nee ATEAH) Peacefully at Deer Lodge Centre on May 3, 2000, Freda, beloved wife of the late Alex Jonsson died at age 96. She is survived by her five children; Lloyd (Gloria), Robert (Donna), Enid Tyler, Jack (Joanne) and Marlene Farrell (Tom) 17 grandchildren and 38 great-grandchildren. Also left to mourn are sisters, Pansy Lunney, Margaret Morphy; brother John Ateah; sister-in-law Jessie Ateah and numerous nieces and nephews. Freda was predeceased by her husband Axel (Alex) in 1963; her parents, Michael and Sophia Ateah; brothers, Alfred, Sam and Eddy; sisters, Lily Lester, Sophie David and Louise Purdy and grandchildren, Jon and Debbie Jonsson. Freda was born February 4, 1904 in Winnipeg Beach. She and Alex were married in 1922 and made Victoria Beach their home. Freda worked hard all her life. She mink ranched, commercial fished, gardened, sewed and quilted. Above all she was a devoted wife and mother. She took pride in her community. She worked diligently to help raise funds to build St. Michaels Anglican Church and she was a founding member of the New Horizons Seniors. The family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks to the staff of Deer Lodge Centre and in particular T6 for their excellent care and compassion. A special thanks to Aunt Pansy for her constant loving care during Moms lengthy illness. Should friends desire, donations may be made to the Anglican Parish of St. Michaels Church or St. Michaels Community Church, General Delivery, Victoria Beach, MB R0E 2C0. Pallbearers are grandsons Duane and Jeff Jonsson, Danny and Greg Jonsson, John Jonsson and Sean Farrell. Viewing at Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk on Sunday, May 7 between 7:00 and 8:00 p.m. A service of Thanksgiving will be held Monday, May 8 at 2:00 p.m. in the St. Michaels Community Church, Victoria Beach, with viewing one hour before. Interment to follow in the Victoria Beach Cemetery.
