PHILIPPINE BARTLEY (nee MATHIES) It is with deep sadness the family announces the passing of our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, on Wednesday, May 3, 2000 at Grace General Hospital. Philippine will be forever remembered by her loving husband Joe, her daughter Myrna (Bob), her son Lyle (Shirley) as well as her two sisters Katie and Mary of Langenburg, Sask. Left to cherish her memory are her grandchildren, Cheryl of Edmonton, Heather (David) , Kara Dawn (Kenneth) of Toronto and great grandchildren Kirsten and Sara. Philippine was born in Melville, Sask. on May 1, 1915. She spent her early years on family farms in Mankota and Marchwell, Sask. It was at a Young Peoples meeting where she met Joe and they were later married in 1936. They farmed for a short period in that area until Joe joined the CPR in 1943. They made various moves finally residing in Gladstone, Man. where they spent 30 years. The past five years they have resided in Winnipeg and last fall celebrated their 63rd Wedding Anniversary. Phil enjoyed crocheting, playing canasta and excelled in baking dainties for various family parties. Her greatest joy in the last few years has been spending time with her great grand-children. The family would like to thank caregivers, Dr. Petrenko for his consistent care over the past years, Dr. Joshua, Marg and Donna (chaplain) in ICU during her final hours. Funeral Service will be held on Monday, May 8 at 2:00 p.m. in the Charleswood United Church, 4820 Roblin Blvd., with Reverend Michael Wilson officiating. Interment will follow in Waverley Memorial Gardens, 1501 Waverley St. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donation may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association, 102-310 Broadway, Winnipeg, Man., R3C 0S6 or The Kidney Foundation of Canada, Manitoba Branch, 200-55 Donald Street, Winnipeg, Man., R3C 1L8.
